About me

I’m Patrick Greenlaw or ShadowDad. The name ShadowDad came from my daughter who played a character in a game whose last name was Shadowgirl. When I started up a YouTube channel, I decided on the spur of the moment to go with ShadowDad and my son became Shadowbro. The YouTube channel is still there, though it languishes in obscurity. Now I have adopted that moniker for some of my online presences.

My history is similar to most who would venture to my corner of the net. I’ve been playing role playing games since I was 12, when I discovered red box D&D. I’ve played or read almost every game that has come out from then to now.

I was originally shown Savage Worlds by a coworker/friend. I thumbed through it but I just did not get the system, though I admit I did not try all that hard. I was heavy into the D20/Pathfinder craze at the time. Then back in late July 2016, I found out about Savage Worlds Rifts. Now, I have been a die-hard fan of the Rifts setting since its launch in August of 1990, when just before my freshmen year in high school, I bought this cool looking book. At that time I was a big fan of the other Palladium Books titles. By 2003, I stopped collecting Palladium Books and by 2005 had sold my entire collection of Palladium’s books.  Anyway, I see that Rifts was converted into this Savage Worlds system. I thought back to my original knee jerk opinion of the system and thought that this was gonna be a flop. But I picked up the PDFs of the core book and the Rifts players guide. By the end of the week, I found myself scouring the net for live plays and video reviews of Savage Worlds and I’ve been an avid fan ever since.

Now, thirteen months after I truly gave the Savage Worlds System a try, I found myself wanting to learn more about it and to start developing material for it. I, like many people have adopted Savage Worlds as my “go to” system for just about everything.

That’s where this blog comes in. I hope to help new and experienced gamers, both game masters and players with ideas and material for their role playing games. While my passion and focus at the moment is on Savage Worlds, I also have plenty of ideas for system agnostic material, such as tips and discussions on making a better game.

I hope you stick around!
