Big Foot in the Northeast, Wild Man of Navidad in Texas, the Grassman of Ohio, Skunkape of Southern Florida, Momo of Missouri, the Native American Genoskwa, and the Swamp Stalker of Boggy creek are all subspecies of the Sasquatch. In this post, we will dive into the elusive Sasquatch and its cousins.
Author’s note: This series looks at the various North American Cryptids as if they were real, tangible beings that have managed to elude scientific observation. Many of the creatures I will be featuring have appeared in other Savage Worlds products. Often times they have been altered and tweaked to fit that particular setting or to make them more interesting or challenging. My interpretation tries to stay closer to the available lore I could find on each.
I hope you enjoy this series and like my interpretations of these wonderfully imaginative creatures!
NOTE: This now updated to the new Savage Worlds Adventure Edition!!

Sasquatch
This is the most famous of all the “ape-men” of North America. Commonly called big foot, this creature can stand anywhere between seven and nine feet tall. It always has a general ape-like appearance but with a more human stance, walking upright. First sightings of this beast date back as far as the early 1800’s and continue sporadically to current day. While a few grainy images and video has been captured as well has foot prints and claw marks, no one has managed to capture a live one or produce the body of one.
These creatures are not aggressive unless provoked, but they can be territorial. They have large humanoid hands and are powerfully strong. Their fur coloring helps them blend into the surrounding forests in which they dwell.
One final note: The Dewey Lake Monster of Michigan and the Mogollon Monster of Arizona are some local names given to Sasquatch that were sighted in those regions.

Early on, it was called the “It That Comes” as no one ever saw it coming, but there was evidence of it having been there. It would steal food from homes and replace fatted pigs with scrawny ones. The creature never took things of material value like cash or expensive jewelry, though tools were sometimes taken.
These cryptids are described as tall, lanky ape-men with short brown fur covering its body and boar-like tusks protruding from its lower jaw. It is known for being uncannily agile and stealthy.

The first recorded sighting wasin 1978 in the town of Minerva, Ohio, where some young children ran screaming into the house telling of a tall, hairy man in the woods. This same family witnessed it looking in at them one night shortly after their initial encounter. This sparked one of the most extensive searches for “big foot” in modern history. While this was the first reported eyewitness account, there are tales of wild apemen roaming the forests of Ohio dating as far back as the 1700’s.
These tend to stand roughly six to seven feet tall. They are said to have a strong odor of decay or rot about them. Their hair is dark brown to black and very thick. They are more aggressive than many of the “big foots” and are said to be incredibly strong. The name Grassman comes from small well-disguised grass huts, though evidence of dwelling have been found in caves with animal bones fashioned into tools or decoration. The grassman has been known to throw large stones at prey or trespassers.

The most famous sighting of this cryptid was in 1971 when it was said to have broken into a couple’s home and attack them. Some of the sightings recorded include a child in 1973 scared off her tricycle. When the parents came out, a baby skink ape was playing with the trikes big wheel. In 1974, a skunk ape was struck by a car and stumbled into the woods. While skunkape sightings have happened in Georgia, Alabama and even Kansas, the vast majority of the sightings have happened in the Green Swamp of central Florida near Orlando. It is believed that these creatures are also found in Louisiana. There have been remarkably similar looking creatures sighted in the Honey Island Swamp region in the eastern region of the state dating back to 1963. The Native American Genoskwa

Found in Native American folklore, these cryptids are the most aggressive and organized of all the “big-foots”. They are also the largest in all of North America, standing up to eleven feet tall and estimated to weigh as much as 1800 pounds. They have been known to raid remote settlements and carry away human and animal victims. Small tribes of these would then feast on the victims, either eating them alive or first decapitating them by violently twisting the heads off.
